The story

A lemonade stand is never just about the lemonade.

It's a hot day, and a boy has everything a good lemonade stand needs — a hand-built stand, fresh lemons, a full pitcher, and big plans for what the money will buy. But the customers who wander by don't just want a cup of lemonade. They want to talk, to share a story, to slow down for a minute.

He learns to pack light. To know who he's really working hard for. To notice that time with people is the one thing he can't get back. And that no matter how much he already knows, there's always more to learn from the next person who walks up.

It's a simple story, written so kids catch the lesson and grown-ups keep thinking about it long after the last page.

    What you carry with you — worries, habits, the people around you — either helps you or weighs you down. Part of growing up is learning to tell the difference.

    Know who you work hard for

    It's tempting to chase the sale. The stand teaches him that being honest and kind matters just as much as making money — maybe more.

    Time is precious

    You can't get it back, and the best of it is spent with people you love. A slow afternoon turns out to be the whole point.

    There's always more to learn

    Every customer who stops by teaches him something new. Nobody — kid or grown-up — is ever finished learning.

Greg McCoy

Greg McCoy is a consultant, writer, and lifelong dreamer who believes the best lessons usually show up disguised as something else — in this case, a lemonade stand. Life Lessons & Lemonade is based on a true story from his own childhood, written so it would stick with kids and adults alike.

By trade, Greg is the founder and Managing Partner of Visionary Global Consulting, where he works with nonprofits, small businesses, and solo entrepreneurs on AI integration, marketing, and strategic partnerships. That same instinct for finding the human lesson inside a business problem is what shaped this book.

Greg regularly visits schools, libraries, and community events for readings paired with a short "Affirmations to Actions" workshop, helping kids turn a lesson from the story into a goal and a first step of their own.
